Technology and unique
instrumentation have led to the development of surgical techniques
for the diagnosis and repair of joint disorders through the
use of small cameras that allow the surgeon to look into the
joint without needing to make large incisions.
The Foot and Ankle Insitute specializes in arthroscopic treatments
of foot and ankle problems. Following a complete examination
and testing at our location, arthroscopic surgery may be recommended
to confirm a diagnosis or perform a surgical procedure within
a joint. During surgery, our surgeon will place a tiny camera
through a small incision to inspect and wash the joint and
may insert surgical instruments through another small incision
to perform additional procedures within the joint. Scar tissue,
loose bone, arthritis, loose ligaments and cartilage damage
are just some of the problems that are often treated arthroscopically
at our institute.
By eliminating the need for large incisions and constantly
washing the joint, arthroscopy reduces the risk of infection
and swelling and allow the patient to go home the day of surgery.
Advantages of arthroscopic surgery include reduced trauma
due to the small instruments, better visualization of the
joint, rapid healing and return to walking or sports |
